Beautiful Lengths is a partnership between Pantene and American Cancer Society that uses ponytail donations of 8 or more inches in length to provide free, real-hair wigs to women with cancer. The loss of a woman's hair due to chemotherapy can be a traumatic experience that impacts her confidence and strength to fight the cancer. Many of these women can't afford a real-hair wig to make them feel beautiful again and regain that confidence. A donation to the Beautiful Lengths program can make all the difference to these women.
The University of Cincinnati is hosting a free, hair-cutting event where anyone can come to donate their hair. There will be local stylists in attendance who have offered to finish off all donor's hair cuts.
Donation requirements - To be made into a wig, your hair must be:
1. At least 8 inches long (no maximum length!). Curly or wavy hair is measured when straight.
2. Free of permanent color, bleach, or other chemical treatments such as Japanese straightening. Vegetable dyes, semi-permanent dyes, and rinses are acceptable, but "virgin" hair is preferred.
3. No more than 5% gray.
